The Asian Patent Attorneys Association (APAA) will hold its General Assembly and Council Meetings in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from November 6 to 10, 2025. Representatives from IP law firms across Asia and around the world will be in attendance, and KIPB Japan is delighted to be part of this year’s event.


We will be represented by Steve Denney, leading our international client accounts and business development, and Yoshiaki Kishizawa, Head of our Patent Department.

Applicants can now request a resumption of examination of a divisional application that has been suspended during the appeal examination of the parent application.

In accordance with the rules introduced last year, applicants may request the temporary suspension of the examination of a divisional application until the result of an appeal for the parent application. This has made it more efficient for examiners to examine divisional applications with reference to the appeal results and enabled applicants to refine their divisional claim strategies based on the outcome of the appeal. The JPO to serve official documents to some rights holders residing overseas by publication in the online patent gazette rather than by international mail.
